چکیده

Human-Robot Interaction requires coordination strategies that allow human and artificial agencies to interpret and interleave their actions. In this paper we consider the potential of artificial emotions to serve as coordination devices in human-robot teams. We propose an approach for modelling action selection based on artificial emotions and signalling a robot’s internal state to human team member. We describe an architecture that drives the display of artificial emotional gestures with a model latched internal emotional states. We also present preliminary data on human recognition rates for a candidate set of artificial emotional expressions in a Lego robot.

In our own image? Emotional and neural processing differences when observing human–human vs human–robot interactions

Notwithstanding the significant role that human-robot interactions (HRI) will play in the near future, limited research has explored the neural correlates of feeling eerie in response to social robots. To address this empirical lacuna, the current investigation examined brain activity using functional magnetic resonance imaging while a group of participants (n = 26) viewed a series of human-hum...

Towards Augmenting Dialogue Strategy Management with Multimodal Sub-Symbolic Context

A synthetic agent requires the coordinated use of multiple sensory and effector modalities in order to achieve a social human-robot interaction (HRI). While systems in which such a concatenation of multiple modalities exist, the issue of information coordination across modalities to identify relevant context information remains problematic. A system-wide information formalism is typically used ...

Adaptive artificial brain for humanoid robot using Pattern Recognition and Machine learning

Human face is a very special and it has been used to express emotions by the human being in order to express their feelings to others. But when talking about Human Robot Interaction (HRI), it becomes difficult to identify the exact emotion. So far, there are seven recognized emotions: Natural, Happy, Sad, Anger, Surprise, Fear, and Disgust. However, apart from these emotions, human being can ex...

Research on Artificial Psychology Based on Multimodal Interactive Service Robot

—In the field of human robot interaction (HRI), providing robot with emotions and psychology like human can be useful to achieve natural interaction. Previous HRI research focused on issues such as gesture recognition, speech recognition and path planning etc. Using the affective information obtained from multimodal interaction can improve the robot's perception to interaction object and enviro...

Bridging the Gap between HRI and Neuroscience in Emotion Research: Robots as Models

Emotions are a fundamental aspect of social cognition and interaction, and their importance has been acknowledged by both the HRI and neuroscience communities. Emotions provide an ideal framework for interand cross-disciplinary research since, due to their complex multi-faceted nature, they cannot be properly understood from the perspective of a single discipline. In this paper, I argue that th...
